Leeds United moved closer to Premier League safety with a hard-fought point at Crystal Palace, despite a bizarre refereeing error that saw Gabriel Gudmundsson sent off after the official forgot he had already booked the defender. The 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park left Leeds five points clear of the relegation zone with three games remaining.
The incident occurred in first-half stoppage time when Gudmundsson fouled Ismaila Sarr. Referee Thomas Bramall initially showed a yellow card, but after being reminded by Sarr that the Sweden international had already been cautioned, he produced a red card. Palace defender Jaydee Canvot celebrated the decision, but the hosts failed to capitalise on their numerical advantage.
Leeds had earlier missed a golden chance to take the lead when Dominic Calvert-Lewin dragged a penalty wide after Will Hughes handled in the area. The visitors had been the better side before the sending-off, with Calvert-Lewin also seeing two headers from corners saved by Walter Benítez, with replays suggesting the ball had crossed the line on the first occasion.
Leeds manager Daniel Farke praised his players' resilience, saying: 'It was another day when I trust these players with my life because I can always count on them.' He described the point as 'priceless' in their battle for survival. Palace boss Oliver Glasner admitted his side lacked composure, stating: 'We are not the biggest goalscoring machine in the Premier League. We have to stay calm and wait for the right moments.'
The result leaves Palace in mid-table, while Leeds remain six points clear of the relegation zone with four matches left. Farke's side next face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Elland Road.
