Manchester United are set to receive approximately £10.5 million from Mason Greenwood's transfer from Marseille to Fenerbahce, after a portion of their sell-on fee is redirected to Getafe. United had included a 40% sell-on clause when Greenwood moved to Marseille for £26.6 million in 2024.
Marseille sold the forward to Turkish side Fenerbahce for a reported £33.3 million, triggering the clause and entitling United to around £13.3 million. However, 20% of that share—amounting to £2.7 million—must be forwarded to Getafe, following Greenwood's loan stint with the Spanish club during the 2023/24 campaign. This leaves United with roughly £10.5 million from the arrangement.
Greenwood, 24, came through United's academy, making both the initial fee and the sell-on proceeds count as pure profit under the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR). The funds could be reinvested in the squad as Michael Carrick prepares to lead the team in the Champions League next season. United have recently completed deals for Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans for a combined £85 million.
Greenwood delivered impressive performances for both Getafe and Marseille. During his loan in Spain, he scored 10 goals and registered six assists in 36 appearances. Across two seasons at Marseille, he netted 48 times and laid on 17 assists in 81 outings in all competitions.
Former Marseille and current Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi praised Greenwood, saying: 'I see him every day, he has huge potential. I don't see any other players in Europe at the same level. He has the potential to win the Ballon d'Or.'
