Real Madrid secured a dramatic 5-3 victory over Atlético Madrid in extra time to reach the Spanish Super Cup final, in a thrilling encounter played in Saudi Arabia. The match, which featured eight goals, saw Jan Oblak's late error allow Brahim Díaz to score into an empty net in the 121st minute, sealing the win for Real Madrid.
Antoine Griezmann opened the scoring for Atlético with a header from a corner, becoming the club's all-time top scorer with his 164th goal. Real Madrid equalised through Toni Rüdiger, also from a corner, before Ferland Mendy put them ahead with a fine flick. Griezmann then levelled with a spectacular backheel turn and finish, making it 2-2 at half-time.
The second half saw further goals from Mario Hermoso for Atlético and Dani Carvajal for Real, before an own goal from Stefan Savic handed Real the lead in extra time. Atlético pushed for an equaliser, but Oblak's rush forward for a corner left his goal unguarded, allowing Díaz to score the decisive goal.
The match was the first of three derbies between the two sides in three weeks, with a Copa del Rey clash and a La Liga meeting to follow. Real Madrid will now face either Barcelona or Osasuna in the final.
