Marcus Rashford shared a warm reunion with former Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney before Barcelona's Champions League match against Newcastle United at St. James' Park. The 28-year-old, currently on loan from United, embraced Rooney and former England striker Daniel Sturridge pitchside before kick-off.
Rashford came on as a second-half substitute in the 1-1 draw, having scored twice against Newcastle earlier this season. Barcelona are considering making his loan move permanent, with a £26million option to buy included in the deal.
The reunion comes nearly five months after Rooney criticised Rashford's performances at United. On his show, Rooney said: 'If you are not playing well or you get left out of the team, it is easier to blame the environment... I think that comes from how you apply yourself. We know he can run more - that is nothing to do with an environment.'
Rashford had previously suggested his difficulties at Old Trafford stemmed from an 'inconsistent environment'. He was excluded from the squad by former manager Ruben Amorim before being loaned to Aston Villa in January 2025 and then to Barcelona.
