Barcelona have confirmed the loan signing of Marcus Rashford from Manchester United for the 2025-26 season, with an option to buy the England international for £26 million next summer. The 27-year-old has been assigned the No.14 shirt, previously worn by Pablo Torre, who recently completed a permanent move to Mallorca.
The number carries historical weight at Barcelona, having been worn by Thierry Henry during his time at the club. Rashford has previously drawn comparisons to Henry, telling Spanish YouTube channel XBuyer last month: 'I see myself reflected in Henry. He's comfortable playing on the left and also in the middle. He's a free player.'
Rashford's move was announced on Wednesday after he signed his contract at Barcelona's offices, with shirts bearing his name and number displayed behind him. The forward had expressed his desire to join the Catalan club in that same interview, stating he would welcome the chance to play alongside teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal.
At Manchester United, Rashford was part of a five-man 'bomb squad' excluded by manager Ruben Amorim, who left him out of the squad for the pre-season tour to the USA. United wished him well in a statement, saying: 'Everyone at Manchester United wishes Marcus good luck for the season.'
