Rangers have now gone four seasons without winning their opening Premiership match after Derek McInnes's first game in charge ended in a 1-1 draw at Dundee United.
Jim Goodwin's side took the lead through Lachlan Rose following poor Rangers defending, but Thelo Aasgaard produced a superb strike on 56 minutes to level. The visitors could not find a winner, and United's Jesse Randall spurned a golden opportunity when clean through.
McInnes failed to get the win he craved as his new-look side struggled to create chances in the final third. Rangers have now drawn their opening league fixture in each of the last two seasons under different managers, and United deserved their point at Tannadice.
Defensive ratings
Ivor Pandur - 7: The new Croatian keeper was sharp off his line a couple of times, helping his defenders. He did little wrong but could perhaps have moved his feet quicker to get across to Rose's touch for the goal.
Dujon Sterling - 7: Produced a brilliant cross for Naderi's header that was saved, then cut inside and fired a left-foot shot past the post. Moved into central defence later, and it is vital McInnes keeps him fit.
Ben Godfrey - 5: His passing out to Sterling wasn't great, but he looked solid defensively early on. Deceived by Sapsford's dummy in the box for Rose's opener, he was replaced in the second half.
Emmanuel Fernandez - 6: Made a brilliant last-ditch tackle on Rose early on but was dragged out of position for United's goal. His distribution was not up to scratch, he should have scored with a second-half header, and he remains prone to lapses.
Tuur Rommens - 6: Coped well with Randall in the first half until United's goal came down his side, as he allowed the cross in. Delivered one superb cross to the back post for Naderi, but too few.
Midfield and attack ratings
Djeidi Gassama - 3: Given the nod to start in a huge show of faith from his manager, but didn't take his chance. Too often crowded out on the left, he struggled to create gilt-edged chances before being substituted after 45 minutes.
Cammy Devlin - 7: The little Australian looked to hold back at the start, careful not to pick up an early booking. Gradually became more aggressive in midfield and was better with Neil beside him.
Mohamed Diomande - 5: Got a start in the engine room ahead of new signings. Some nice turns and touches but lacked quality at times in the final third. Shifted to the right in the second half but got little joy.
Thelo Aasgaard - 8: The Norwegian was always Rangers' biggest threat. Unlucky with a 25-yard crack at goal just after half-time that Walton beat away, then produced a brilliant touch before burying a left-foot chance to make it 1-1. Also made a crucial defensive block to deny Agyei in his own box.
Lawrence Shankland - 6: The new Gers skipper thought he had scored a quick goal with a clever back-heel from Naderi's cross, but Walton saved. Tried to drop deep and link play but team-mates were not on the same wavelength at times, and he cut a frustrated figure.
Ryan Naderi - 4: A surprise starter ahead of Chermiti, the German failed to grab his opportunity. For his size, he was out-muscled too easily by United defenders and his touch let him down. Unlucky with a header that Walton kept out.
Substitutes
Youssef Chermiti - 5: The big striker replaced Naderi at half-time and posed United a problem down the channels. He should have passed to Shankland instead of shooting late on as Rangers looked for a winner.
Dan Neil - 5: Thrown on at half-time for Gassama, he was almost immediately booked for a late tackle on Agyei. Got his foot on the ball and tried to pass, giving Rangers more control in midfield.
Ross McCrorie - 3: Came on for Godfrey in the second half, with Sterling going into centre-back. Tried to power forward from right-back but lacked quality in United's half.
Findlay Curtis - 2: On for Devlin near the end as Rangers searched for a late winner but couldn't influence the result.
Unused: Kelly, Makhanya, Dragojevic, Chukwuani, Miovski.
