Rangers loanees: Barron and Bajrami struggles, Cameron and Glasgow shine

Connor Barron is facing an uncertain future at Middlesbrough, where he has yet to make his debut for the English Championship side, as Rangers assess the fortunes of nine senior players loaned out last summer.

Derek McInnes oversaw a massive Rangers rebuild last summer, with 19 players heading through the exit door. A number of those players could make their way back to Ibrox after loan spells away from the club, but while temporary switches have ramped up minutes for plenty of players, moves away from the Scottish Premiership haven't worked out for all.

Barron and Bajrami struggling

Barry Ferguson has called for Rangers to cut Barron's loan spell short. The midfielder has yet to make his debut for Middlesbrough.

Thelo Aasgaard made a surprise switch to Anderlecht late in the window after dropping down the pecking order under McInnes. He has made three appearances for his new club, all off the bench, including a 14-minute cameo against Cercle Brugge last weekend to help his side mount an injury-time turnaround.

Danilo hasn't scored in eight appearances for Botafogo this season after returning to Brazil on a temporary deal, and has disappeared from the plans of manager Tite, failing to make it off the bench in the last two winless games.

Nedim Bajrami took himself to the Saudi Pro League after showing flashes of his ability at Rangers. The creative midfielder has been a regular for Al-Taawoun, but the side are winless so far this season and currently sit in the relegation zone.

Cameron and Nsio finding form

Lyall Cameron is reaping the benefits of his loan to Dundee United, where he has been allowed more freedom in the engine room. The Scotland U21 cap spoke last weekend about the role of Jim Goodwin in his rebirth: "He's given me the freedom to go and play, get in good positions, get on the ball and be positive. That's what I'm going to try and do and if I can get some goals and assists to help us win then that's good."

Bailey Rice has been given a key role by Neil McCann in the Kilmarnock midfield, showing flashes of the potential that saw Rangers snap him up from Motherwell. He was unable to face his parent club when Killie visited Ibrox last weekend.

Oscar Cortes has found his feet in Argentina after an injury-hampered spell at Ibrox, helping steer Huracan to the upper reaches of the table. An option to buy is written into Cortes' deal.

Paul Nsio has been made a crucial first-team player by St Mirren boss Craig McLeish, handed regular starts including 90 minutes against Hearts last weekend. Nsio enjoyed a flying start to the season but has struggled in recent outings, just like the Buddies, who are enduring a four-game losing run.

Youngsters impressing

Josh Gentles netted his first goal for Airdrieonians last weekend in the draw with East Kilbride, and has started the last two games for the League One side.

Kyle Glasgow, the 16-year-old already promoted to the Scotland under-21 set-up, has become a key man for Alloa in League One, netting four goals for the struggling side, who are sitting just above the relegation spots.
