Rangers Manager Danny Rohl Calls for Statement Wins to Claim Premiership Summit
Rangers manager Danny Rohl has issued a rallying cry to his players, urging them to 'make a statement' by securing consecutive victories over Motherwell and Hearts this week. This crucial double-header could potentially propel the Ibrox side to the summit of the Scottish Premiership table.
Revitalised Rangers Build Momentum with Unbeaten Run
Rohl's revitalised squad cruised into the Scottish Cup quarter-finals with an emphatic 8-0 demolition of Queen's Park at Ibrox, effectively banishing the painful memories of their shock home exit to the same opponents just a year ago. This commanding performance underscores a remarkable turnaround in form.
Rangers are now unbeaten in their last 10 domestic fixtures, with nine of those matches ending in victory. This impressive streak has generated significant momentum in their ambitious pursuit of a league and cup double under Rohl's stewardship.
Title Race Heats Up as Rangers Eye Top Spot
Currently sitting just three points off the pace in the fiercely contested title race, Rangers have a golden opportunity to climb to the summit. A victory against Motherwell at Fir Park on Wednesday night, followed by a triumph over current leaders Hearts at Ibrox next Sunday, would see them seize control of the Premiership.
'Today showed that at the moment our squad has confidence, individual players have more and more confidence,' stated Rohl. 'But it's all about the next game and we know now the next two games, this is a big, big challenge for us.'
The German manager emphasised the psychological importance of this moment. 'Yeah, it's about three points and three points but of course when you look at the table, if you take three points in Motherwell, then you have a big chance on Sunday to be maybe top of the league and it would be a statement.'
Rohl Preaches Focus and Hunger Amidst Rising Confidence
Despite the palpable excitement, Rohl remains grounded, stressing the need for unwavering focus. 'But even then you have no guarantee that you will stay at the end in this position, that's the reason why we should take it game by game, focus on ourselves.'
He highlighted the transformed mentality within the squad compared to just a few months prior. 'I said this to my players today that 10 or 12 weeks ago, I'm not sure with how much confidence we would go in such a game but today you felt it from the first minute. As a team our body language is there, and now we go on with bravery and confidence, but we still know we have to work hard in the next two games.'
The manager also praised the collective hunger evident in the dressing room, a key driver behind their recent success.
Tavernier's Landmark Performance and Future in Focus
The match against Queen's Park was a landmark afternoon for club captain James Tavernier. The right-back scored the first hat-trick of his professional career and surpassed the 150-goal milestone, with a remarkable 143 of those strikes coming in the famous blue jersey of Rangers.
In a revealing post-match comment, Rohl disclosed that the 34-year-old, whose contract expires at the season's end, was not initially selected to play. 'Max Aarons was going to start and the plan was to give Tav a rest but the doctor called me this morning to say Max wasn’t available,' explained Rohl.
He lauded Tavernier's professionalism and importance. 'He showed his quality, we know Tav is always helpful for the group. I think this is a legend, he is always available, he is very professional. I think we need him as a leader in the next few weeks.' Rohl confirmed that discussions regarding the captain's future are ongoing.
Crestfallen Queen's Park Coach Laments Basic Failings
In stark contrast, Queen’s Park head coach Sean Crighton was left utterly crestfallen by his team's heavy defeat. 'This game was a bonus for us and I wanted the players to come and enjoy it,' he lamented. 'But we didn’t do the basics right all over the pitch and we were punished. It wasn’t good enough. We were miles off it.'
As Rangers prepare for their pivotal week, the stage is set for a dramatic shift at the top of Scottish football, with Rohl's men determined to translate their soaring confidence into a definitive statement of title intent.
