Raith Rovers face SFA action over Lennon social post

Raith Rovers could face disciplinary action after a deleted social media post aimed at Dunfermline manager Neil Lennon following Friday night's goalless Fife derby.

The Championship clash at Stark's Park ended 0-0, with Lennon angered that his side were not awarded a penalty when Pars striker Olly Thomas was brought down by home goalkeeper Josh Rae inside the penalty area.

Post Deleted After Going Viral

As Lennon left the pitch after the final whistle, he was taunted by Raith fans and responded by holding his thumb and forefinger close together, perceived as a dig at Rovers for being a 'small club' compared to the Pars.

Raith's social media account on X posted an image of Lennon's gesture with the caption 'How big is your penis, Neil?' The post was quickly deleted but not before going viral, drawing reactions from fans and pundits.

Potential Breach of SFA Rules

According to The Courier, Raith could face disciplinary action under Rule 73 of the SFA's Judicial Panel Protocol, which covers 'bringing the game into disrepute'.

The rule states that 'comments of a discriminatory or offensive nature' in an interview, blog, social networking or micro-blogging site, or any other manner likely to lead to publicity, can be punished.

The SPFL match delegate at Friday's game has been made aware of the incident, and the SFA's match compliance officer will now consider next steps.

Lennon's Reaction

Lennon was frustrated that his team were not awarded a penalty during the match. He said: "It's a penalty and it's an awful decision.

"I've got to be careful what I say. I don't know how you can not deem that a penalty. I know he hasn't got the benefit of TV cameras, but we knew at the time it was a penalty.

"The linesman's right there. The goalkeeper's made contact with Olly on the 18-yard line, and gets nowhere near the ball, so I don't know what other decision he can give. I just thought he was poor all night.

"Anyway, I think we got paid a backhanded compliment tonight because there was only one team trying to win the game. There was no real ambition from the opposition.

"They dropped off and made life difficult for us, which is fine, and that's something we maybe have to learn from as we go along.

"But, I'm really proud of the team again. Their will to win and keep going on a difficult pitch and against a difficult opponent was really good. Another clean sheet, a point away from home.

"We'll take that and move on."
