West Ham secured a vital 2-1 victory over Everton at the London Stadium, with Callum Wilson scoring a stoppage-time winner to keep the Hammers two points clear of the relegation zone.
After Tomas Soucek had given West Ham the lead from a Jarrod Bowen corner in the 51st minute, Everton equalised through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall with two minutes of regular time remaining. The visitors had earlier survived a penalty appeal for a handball by Mateus Fernandes.
But Wilson, who had come on as a substitute, struck in the eighth minute of added time, converting after a cross from Bowen to claim his ninth goal in his past eight appearances against Everton.
Manager Nuno Espírito Santo praised his side's character: "The next move is to play forward and get a goal. This is character. It makes us proud."
Everton manager David Moyes, returning to his former club on his 63rd birthday, was left frustrated by his side's soft defending and a second successive stoppage-time defeat. He highlighted the contribution of Soucek, saying: "His worth has been enormous. Because of his goals, the type of boy he is, he epitomises a lot of things you want as a coach."
The result leaves West Ham in 17th, two points above Tottenham in the drop zone, while Everton's European hopes suffered a setback.
