Paul Mescal has joked about being 'so lucky' to receive free tickets to the All-Ireland hurling final as he joined the BBC's coverage of the match between Cork and Tipperary at Croke Park on Sunday.
The actor, who was accompanied by his father, said: 'All-Ireland final day is one of the most special days in the calendar and to be here with dad, we're so lucky to be getting free tickets to an All-Ireland final.'
Mescal added that he was glad the event was being broadcast across the UK, describing it as 'a huge cultural moment every year' and 'a massive event for Irish people across the world, not just those living in Ireland but the diaspora.'
His father, a former Kildare minor footballer, called the final 'the pinnacle of Irish sport' and said 'you have to be here to fully get the atmosphere.'
Also part of the BBC's line-up were singer Tom Grennan, whose father is from Offaly, and recently retired jockey Rachael Blackmore, a Tipperary native. Grennan, attending his first All-Ireland final, remarked on the unique atmosphere, saying: 'If you saw this at a North London derby that wouldn't be the case. You'd have one half and one half where everybody mixes, a sea of different colours. It's a beautiful thing.'
