Ex-England Star Hails Will Jacks as T20 World Cup Revelation

Former England spinner Monty Panesar has identified Will Jacks as the crucial player who could propel England to T20 World Cup glory, describing the all-rounder as a 'revelation' for Harry Brook's side. England are set to face co-hosts India in the semi-finals in Mumbai on Thursday, with a place in the final against either New Zealand or South Africa at stake.

Jacks' Confidence Soars After Ashes Inclusion

Panesar, speaking exclusively ahead of the launch of the BallsApp mobile platform, emphasized how Jacks' surprise selection for the Ashes tour of Australia has transformed his confidence. 'I believe that Will Jacks has been a real revelation on this trip,' Panesar stated. 'His confidence has gone through the roof by giving him the ball during the Ashes even though he's more of a part-time spinner.'

The 27-year-old Jacks, who played four Tests in Australia, has since developed a more attacking mindset with the ball. 'Now when you look at him, he's happy to throw the ball, bowl it fuller, give it a bit of air - even during the powerplay because he's looking to take wickets,' Panesar explained. 'It's a different mindset when you're looking to take wickets rather than contain.'

Key Role in England's Bowling Strategy

Jacks' emergence as a reliable spin option has significantly eased captain Harry Brook's tactical decisions. 'I think he's made Harry Brook's job a lot easier,' Panesar noted. 'It's allowed Adil Rashid to come later on during the important overs. They were looking for an extra spinner and they've got that.'

This provides England with flexible bowling choices, particularly on turning pitches in India and Sri Lanka. 'Then there's the option of Liam Dawson, he's done really well against the right-handers,' Panesar added. 'He (Brook) can bring Liam Dawson on during the powerplay and if there's a left-hander, you've got Will Jacks, so he's got his options covered.'

Match-Winning Performance Against New Zealand

Jacks demonstrated his all-round value in England's recent victory over New Zealand, which secured their semi-final berth. After openers Jos Buttler and Phil Salt fell early, Jacks partnered with Rehan Ahmed to guide England to a four-wicket win, showcasing his batting prowess alongside his two-wicket haul with the ball.

Panesar believes England's potential is immense as they approach the knockout stages. 'The potential that the England team has is to score 200-plus, dominating with the ball and being brilliant in the field,' the double Ashes winner said. 'This England team is peaking towards that performance.'

Advice for Struggling Jos Buttler

Meanwhile, Panesar has offered advice to out-of-form opener Jos Buttler, who registered a duck against New Zealand and has failed to reach double figures in England's last five matches. Panesar urged Buttler to study captain Harry Brook's approach, particularly his magnificent 50-ball century against Pakistan last Tuesday.

'He's (Brook) hitting the ball straight really well and then after that, he can start improvising and playing other shots,' Panesar highlighted. 'That's something Jos Buttler could say, 'Maybe I need to do what Harry Brook is doing' and then start playing his 360 game which he plays a bit too early.'

Despite Buttler's recent struggles, Panesar remains confident in his ability. 'I think he's still England's main guy when it comes to the big games,' the former spinner declared. 'He will start performing really well.'

England's semi-final against India represents a critical test, with Jacks' form and Buttler's potential resurgence likely to be decisive factors in their quest for T20 World Cup success.
