Oxlade-Chamberlain Expresses Astonishment at Salah's Liverpool Departure Announcement
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has openly shared his shock following Mohamed Salah's confirmation of his imminent exit from Liverpool. The former teammate, who spent six seasons alongside the Egyptian forward at Anfield, admitted he assumed Salah would "never stop" playing for the Reds, based on his observations of Salah's intense private dedication.
Salah's Unprecedented Legacy at Anfield
Mohamed Salah will conclude a remarkable nine-year tenure at Liverpool when the current season ends, having cemented his status as a club legend. Since his arrival in the summer of 2017, Salah has amassed over 250 goals and numerous individual and team honours, transforming into what Oxlade-Chamberlain describes as an "animal" on the pitch. His journey included early setbacks at Chelsea and in Italy before flourishing at Liverpool, achieving what his colleague likens to "Ronaldo-type numbers."
Oxlade-Chamberlain's Insights into Salah's Elite Mindset
Speaking on the In The Mixer podcast, Oxlade-Chamberlain highlighted Salah's unique ability to influence games regardless of form. "He could have a terrible game and score two goals and win you the game. That's special," he remarked, contrasting it with his own experiences. He emphasised Salah's elite mentality, noting how the forward avoids emotional extremes, stays ready in crucial moments, and maintains a relentless focus that sets him apart from other professionals.
The Off-Pitch Obsession That Defined Salah's Success
Oxlade-Chamberlain provided a rare glimpse into Salah's private life, revealing an almost obsessive commitment to his craft. He described how Salah has installed ice baths, cryo chambers, and red light therapy in his home, dedicating every hour to recovery and training. "He definitely doesn't play golf or anything in his free time. He ain't got time for anything else!" Oxlade-Chamberlain quipped, recalling instances where he would see Salah running through tunnels before training, likening him to Rocky.
The routine included being the first in the gym, rigorous post-training sessions, and constant therapy, which Oxlade-Chamberlain summarised as an unmatched obsession. "In terms of professionals, I have never seen anyone do what Mo does every hour of the day," he admitted, expressing admiration for Salah's discipline. This dedication, combined with his on-field prowess, explains why Salah's departure comes as such a surprise to those who witnessed his unwavering drive firsthand.
