Liverpool have given Darwin Núñez the go-ahead to discuss a transfer to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, with the two clubs close to agreeing a fee for the Uruguay international. The 26-year-old forward started only eight Premier League games last season and has struggled to adapt to manager Arne Slot's system.
Al-Hilal's offer is understood to be an initial £46m, with add-ons taking the total higher, though the final structure is yet to be finalised. Liverpool had previously rejected a £60m bid from Al-Nassr in January as they prioritised their title challenge. The Reds paid an initial £64m to sign Núñez from Benfica in 2022, with the deal potentially rising to a club-record £85m.
Serie A sides Milan and Napoli had shown interest but were deterred by the financial demands. Liverpool have been seeking to recoup around £60m for the player. Núñez could meet Al-Hilal officials during the Saudi club's training camp in Germany, but he remains available for Sunday's Community Shield against Crystal Palace if the transfer does not proceed in time.
The potential sale would push Liverpool's income from player sales past £250m since Richard Hughes became sporting director last summer. The club has already sold Tyler Morton to Lyon for £15m this week and could also offload Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa. Leipzig are considering a move for Elliott if Xavi Simons joins Chelsea, while Chiesa may return to Italy.
Liverpool have invested nearly £300m on players this summer and their £110m bid for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak remains on the table.
