Calum McFarlane has criticised Chelsea's 'unacceptable' performance after they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The result means Chelsea can no longer finish in the Premier League's top five, extending their losing streak to six matches.
Forest took the lead within two minutes when Taiwo Awoniyi headed home from Dilane Bakwa's cross. The visitors doubled their advantage from the penalty spot after Malo Gusto fouled an opponent, with Igor Jesus converting. Chelsea were 3-0 down before Joao Pedro scored a stoppage-time consolation goal with a bicycle kick.
McFarlane said: 'Really disappointed with the performance, disappointed with the result. I don't think we ever got to our level today that we know we're capable of. The first 15 minutes was unacceptable. The manner in which the two goals were conceded has really set us back. It gave ourselves a mountain to climb.'
The 38-year-old added: 'You cannot start games the way we did in the Premier League against a team of Forest's quality. All we can focus on right now is that we're in tomorrow, we're training tomorrow. We'll review the game and try and make sure that the performance level is of a higher level against Liverpool in five days' time.'
