A Southern League football match between Yate Town FC and Weymouth FC was suspended for nearly an hour on Saturday afternoon after reports of a serious incident involving fans. The game, held at Yate Town's Lodge Road ground, was stopped just one minute in, following Weymouth's early goal.
Both clubs took to social media to update supporters. Yate Town FC posted on X at 3.26pm: "A serious incident has happened in the crowd and the game has been suspended since the first minute with both sets of players currently off the field of play." Weymouth FC followed with a statement at 3.38pm, saying: "Due to an incident at the stadium there has been a long delay in play. A further update will follow."
Additional reports from Bristol Live indicated significant brawling between home and away supporters. The match resumed at 4pm, with 44 minutes of the first half remaining and Weymouth leading 1-0. By half time, Weymouth had extended their lead to 2-0.
In the second half, Yate Town received a yellow card in the 88th minute, and three minutes of stoppage time were added. However, the visitors held on to win 2-0.
