Kevin Nisbet says Aberdeen's new recruits are being assigned best buddies on arrival to end the lack of dressing room solidarity that plagued last season's relegation. The Dons hitman netted a hat trick in Wednesday's 4-1 Premier Sports Cup win over Queen of the South, taking his tally to five goals in three matches.
New players get assigned buddies
Nisbet revealed that under new boss Stephen Robinson, each new player is assigned two teammates to look after them, something not done before. "When a new player arrives, the gaffer picks two players to look after them which is something which has not been in place during the time I have been here," he said. "Before the gaffer came in, new boys were left to their own devices, now there are two players who will take them out for coffee and things like that."
Leadership group shares responsibility
Nisbet is part of a leadership group of four or five players who run the dressing room. "It's about shared responsibility and it's not just one person. Even when there is a defeat it's not just one person, to go out and speak to the press, there are four or five of us," he said. The group includes Brad Lyons, Nicky Devlin, Mats Knoester, Stuart Armstrong, and Dan Happe.
Nisbet's fitness and form
The 29-year-old striker, who claimed a fourth goal after the ball appeared to cross the line before his corner finish, credited an injury-free pre-season for his early form. "This pre-season I have managed to stay fit which is a big thing for me as during the last two pre-seasons I kept getting injured and it's hampered me," he said. He also praised the service from wide players Tony Yogane, Lewis Smith, and Connor Ronan.
