The brother of late NFL star Pat Tillman has been arrested after a car crashed into a post office in San Jose, California, causing a fire. Richard Tillman, 40, was taken into custody early on Sunday morning, police said.
The incident occurred shortly before 3am at a post office in a strip mall south of downtown San Jose. No injuries were reported, but around 50 firefighters took about 90 minutes to extinguish the blaze. Photos released by the fire department showed a charred car inside the heavily damaged building.
According to NBC Bay Area, the suspect told officers at the scene that he was Pat Tillman's brother. Pat Tillman, a former Arizona Cardinals safety, gave up his NFL career to serve in the US Army after the 9/11 attacks and was killed in Afghanistan in 2004. The Pentagon later admitted his death was caused by friendly fire.
Richard Tillman was booked on suspicion of arson, according to ABC News. He is being held without bail at the Santa Clara County jail. Federal investigators are also looking into spray-painted words found on the post office building, including the phrase 'viva la me,' and claims that the driver livestreamed the crash.
