SUGGY (8.00, Nap) is fancied to make the most of a return to the all-weather by landing the Roy Grimwood Memorial Handicap at Wolverhampton on Monday evening. Having failed to make the frame at Salisbury, Newbury and Newmarket, the Charlie Hills-trained son of Sergei Prokofiev ran second in a Bath nursery last October when making his handicap debut.
My selection went under by a head in a Kempton nursery the following month but got his head in front over a mile in Sunbury on his return to action in May. Sent off the 7-2 favourite in a field of 13, Suggy did the job in decent style under Jason Watson, coming from the back of the field to beat Blue Celestial by a length and a quarter.
Suggy's Return to All-Weather
Suggy didn’t reproduce that form on rain-softened turf at Newbury next time, returning eighth of 10 behind Storm Point. But it’s early days to be writing him off and Suggy, on an unchanged mark 4lb above his winning rating from Kempton, appeals back on an artificial surface.
At Lingfield, ROMANZA (3.15, nb) ran a fine race to be beaten just over four lengths in seventh when a 22-1 chance for the Listed Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot, and is expected to thrive in calmer waters for the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Novice Stakes.
