Newsboy's nap for Monday's six meetings is Angel Shared, who is fancied to win the Blackmore Building Contractors Handicap (2.50) at Bath. Steph Hollinshead's daughter of Harry Angel failed to shine on her all-weather debut when last of seven at Southwell in mid-March, but her 40-1 fifth in the Listed Lansdown Stakes over course and distance last time was much more like it.
Angel Shared's Prospects
Punters rightly perceive a red flag when a horse bids to transfer conditions form – especially when that form was gained at long odds – to handicaps. But Angel Shared, for whom fast ground is a definite plus, is now down to a British Horseracing Authority mark of 84 – and scored from that exact rating when racking up a hat-trick at Newmarket last summer. My selection, a previous course-and-distance winner – albeit from two opponents – was held up last time but usually runs from the front. A draw in stall four allows regular pilot Dougie Costello to take the bull by the horns here, and Angel Shared, whose trainer was among the winners in the past few days, should take some catching.
Staniel Cay at Windsor
Another sprinter with a winning chance is Staniel Cay, who gets the vote to follow up a strong-travelling victory at Nottingham 16 days ago in the Betwright Bet The Wright Way Handicap (4.43) at Windsor.
