Newcastle United are set to appoint Matthias Jaissle as their new manager this weekend after the German coach agreed a deal to replace Eddie Howe.
Jaissle will leave Saudi side Al-Ahli, with the Magpies paying compensation for the 38-year-old. His arrival follows the news that Howe stepped down as Newcastle manager after informing the club he needed to take a break from football after almost five years with the club.
Pre-season plans and first tasks
The appointment will see Jaissle link up with the squad in La Manga for their pre-season training camp, before playing Valencia on Saturday. One of his first jobs as United boss will be to get up to speed with Bruno Guimaraes' situation.
The Newcastle captain is due to link up with the squad on Sunday and train on Monday, but Arsenal are still pursuing the midfielder.
Transfer business continues
Newcastle have also agreed a £25m deal as part of their transfer activity. The club are looking to bring in Sporting Braga goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek and another full-back.
