Newcastle United have been forced to recall Nick Pope after a new training ground blow ahead of the clash with AFC Bournemouth. The 34-year-old failed to get a deadline day move after a summer of speculation on Tyneside and the arrival of Ewen Jaouen and Lukas Hornicek. However, an ankle injury to the Frenchman in the build-up to the encounter with the Cherries mean Pope is suddenly back in from the cold.
Back in the squad
Pope is expected to be on the bench against the South Coast club after a summer of uncertainty. The England international was named in the Magpies' Premier League squad and has been training with Newcastle despite being told he won't be first choice under the German coach.
Jaissle's stance
Jaissle said: "Yeah, there are a couple of countries where there are still options that players can move to. But also, we are really clear in our conversations. I had a clear conversation with Nick already a couple of weeks ago about his position here in the club."
"To make a move that's not only a club decision, it's also a decision of the players. And often also from an agent. So there are many, many parts involved in deals. So we need to see. But for now, he's a member of the squad, and I really appreciate him and what he did for the club already, and how he's dealing with the situation right now."
