Newcastle owners PIF inject £95m, near £500m commitment

Newcastle United's owners, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), have injected £95 million into the club, taking their total funding close to £500 million since the takeover in 2021. The latest contribution, confirmed by Companies House documents, includes £6.3 million earmarked for the Newcastle United Women's team as part of the ownership's push towards 2030, when the club hopes to challenge for both the Premier League and WSL titles.

Fresh Financial Pledge

Chronicle Live reported on October 24 that both PIF and the Reuben family had made a fresh financial commitment to keep the club running. This time last year, PIF injected £111 million into the club, described as housekeeping to maintain a sound financial state. The latest injection is understood to be another in a long series of capital injections by the ownership, with more to follow.

The funding boost comes as Newcastle look to remain competitive in the transfer market. Combined with compliance with UEFA's SCR rulebook, the fresh cash could provide scope for purchases in January.

Manager Backing

The investment follows a difficult week for head coach Matthias Jaissle, who came under fire after two successive defeats against Everton, resulting in elimination from the Carabao Cup and the loss of three Premier League points. Despite this, it is believed Jaissle retains the full backing of chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan and the club's board.

Jaissle has had supportive conversations with sporting director Ross Wilson this week ahead of the clash at Fulham. After losing 1-0 to Everton, Jaissle took full responsibility for results on the pitch. He said: "We need to analyse that now. We need to look at the detail. It is also clear that I have the responsibility, and I also take that responsibility as the manager of this club. And we need to do things better."

He added: "There are many, many things that were not at the level we expect, out of possession and in possession. We want to press them (opponents) high and stress them out as soon as possible. We need to make a clear distinction that if the opposition overplay, we defend it in a compact block. We didn't see that much on the pitch (against Everton)."

No Sale Plans

Jaissle had previously spoken about "alignment" within the four walls of the KNOX and that everybody is focused on the same goal. Back in April, sources at PIF were quick to shut down suggestions that the owners were considering a £1 billion sale of the club, following reports that PIF were winding down their interest in major sporting projects after the collapse of the LIV Golf series.

Suggestions of a £1 billion price tag for a possible sale were quickly rejected by sources close to Newcastle, with Chronicle Live told nobody is "flapping" about the project on Tyneside or back in Riyadh. Instead, the focus is on turning Newcastle into one of the top revenue earners and, more importantly, a top side on the pitch. The same senior sources batted away suggestions of a sale and exit from the club after dismissing reports on April 4.
