Liverpool recorded a 4-2 pre-season friendly victory over Sunderland in Nashville on Saturday evening. Young defender Ifeanyi Ndukwe entered the match in the 10th minute as a substitute for the injured Joe Gomez and delivered an eye-catching display.
Work Permit Complications
Despite his promising performance, Ndukwe will not be eligible to play for Liverpool in the Premier League this season due to insufficient points on his UK work permit. Manager Andoni Iraola is therefore barred from selecting the 18-year-old in league matches.
Loan Move Expected
Consequently, Liverpool are expected to send Ndukwe out on loan to gain regular first-team minutes and accumulate additional work permit points. He will remain with Liverpool's pre-season squad before any temporary departure.
Transfer Details
Liverpool signed Ndukwe from Austria Vienna in January for approximately £2.5 million, with the move completed this summer.
