Jalen Brunson was instrumental in the comeback, scoring 13 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter. The Knicks outscored the Spurs 11-0 in the final minutes to seal the win. OG Anunoby added 17 points, with 12 coming in the fourth quarter, while the team committed no turnovers in the final period.
Spurs star Victor Wembanyama led his team with 26 points and 12 rebounds but struggled from the field, shooting just 6-of-21. He briefly left the game in the third quarter with a limp but returned. Wembanyama admitted, “I was bad tonight,” but dismissed nerves as a factor.
Brunson also had an injury scare after colliding with Harrison Barnes in the first quarter, but he returned and played through the pain. The game was briefly interrupted in the second half when a fan ran onto the court to take a selfie with Wembanyama before being removed by security.
Game 2 is scheduled for Friday night in San Antonio, with the series shifting to New York for Game 3 on Monday.
