Charlie Mulgrew has urged Celtic to take Kasper Hogh out of the team for his own good after another goalless afternoon for the record signing.
The Danish forward failed to score as the champions came from behind to beat Hibs and maintain their four-point lead at the top of the Premiership. Hogh, who joined for £11 million from Bodo/Glimt, has managed just three goals this season, all of them coming in an early-season win at Kilmarnock.
Fans question formation
Supporters have been questioning the decision to move top scorer Camilo Duran out wide to accommodate the out-of-form striker. Mulgrew believes the situation has reached a point where action is needed before things get worse.
Speaking to GO Radio, Mulgrew said he would have substituted Hogh early in the match, citing missed chances and a clear loss of confidence.
Confidence crisis
“I would have hooked Kasper Hogh off at 35 minutes,” he said. “He missed two sitters, you could tell his confidence is gone and he ran into the referee to sum it up. He came short for a ball and nearly set Hibs on the counter-attack.”
Mulgrew, who experienced similar struggles during his own playing career, described the mental toll of a loss of form and called for Hogh to be eased back gradually.
“He’s gone. His confidence is gone. I’ve been there as a player so I can completely sympathise with him,” he added. “Confidence is a massive thing in football and Kasper Hogh at this moment in time, nothing has gone right for him. He needs taken out the team for a month or so, and just brought on for 10-15 minutes here and there and eased back in to get his confidence back up because right now he is in the firing line.”
