David Moyes Gives Update on Jack Grealish's Everton Future
Everton manager David Moyes has stated that no decision has been made regarding whether the club will seek to retain Jack Grealish beyond the current season. Grealish's season-long loan from Manchester City was cut short due to a foot injury in mid-January, ending his campaign prematurely. Despite this setback, he has remained at Everton, a move interpreted by many as a sign of his desire to make the transfer permanent this summer.
Loan Extension Likely Over Permanent Deal
According to sources, Everton are unlikely to activate the £50 million option to buy Grealish, which would set a club record transfer fee. Instead, Moyes is keen to keep the player, with a second loan spell emerging as the most probable scenario. However, any arrangements are expected to be deferred until after the season concludes, a point Moyes reiterated in his recent comments.
"We wouldn't be making any decision and even if I was I wouldn't be saying anything at the moment because Jack has had quite a serious operation in his foot so we've got to give that time to heal," Moyes explained. He added, "Jack is here and we love having him around. He's great company. If you look at the contribution in the 15-20 games he played, he was great and he gave the crowd a lift, and he certainly played a big part in where we're sitting right now."
Everton's European Ambitions
As Everton prepare to face Brentford on Saturday in a crucial match for European qualification, Moyes remains cautious about discussing Champions League prospects. The Premier League has confirmed at least five spots for the Champions League, presenting a significant opportunity for the club. "It's probably the best chance we've had for a long time," Moyes noted, but admitted, "the words 'Champions League' probably makes me shake a wee bit at the thought of that."
He elaborated on the club's aspirations, saying, "I've been fortunate enough to play in the other competitions quite recently and I know that if we were able to get there, we'd be able to hold our own in certain levels of it. I think the Champions League is a completely different thing to talk about. But look, if you said Europe in any competition, if it was the tiddlywinks European competition we got in, we'd be excited about it because Evertonians know we want to get back in amongst it, we want to start getting talked about again."
This update comes as Everton continue their push for a European spot, with Grealish's future remaining a key topic of discussion among fans and analysts alike.
