Celtc made hard work of beating sixth-tier Auchinleck Talbot 2-0 in the Scottish Cup fourth round on Sunday, with goals from Johnny Kenny and Sebastian Tounekti doing little to quell growing dissent among the support. Kenny finished from close range in the 34th minute before Tounekti curled into the top corner from 18 yards with five minutes left. Each goal was met with anti-board chants and pleas for transfer activity, as fans chanted “sign a player”.
Aberdeen, the holders, progressed with a narrow 1-0 win over Raith Rovers, thanks to Jack Milne’s early strike from a corner. Interim manager Peter Leven called for more clinical finishing despite being pleased to advance. “We saw some big names go out [on Saturday] so the most important thing was to get through,” Leven said, adding that the team became nervy after sloppy passes.
Falkirk produced a major upset, eliminating Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Ben Parkinson gave Falkirk the lead, but Lawrence Shankland levelled from the spot in normal time. Elton Kabangu missed the only penalty, allowing Parkinson to net the winner. Dunfermline also caused a shock, sending Hibernian out after an own goal by Miguel Chaiwa in stoppage time.
St Mirren edged Livingston 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, with Jeremy Bokila blazing over the first spot-kick. Dundee came from behind to beat nine-man Kilmarnock 2-1, with Drey Wright scoring the winner in the last minute. Dundee United needed two late goals from substitutes Nikolaj Möller and Panutche Camara to overcome Ayr.
