An EasyJet flight travelling from Cyprus to Scotland was forced to declare an emergency due to a medical incident onboard. The flight, US3170, was diverted to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport on Tuesday evening while en route from Larnaca to Glasgow.
Passenger requires CPR at 38,000 feet
Around four hours into the journey, a passenger experienced a life-threatening medical event. CPR was administered onboard the Airbus A320 at an altitude of 38,000 feet. The pilot declared an emergency and notified Air Traffic Control that an immediate landing was necessary.
According to Airlive.net, the pilot requested priority assistance from air traffic controllers as CPR was performed in the cabin. The flight was given top priority, and controllers cleared a direct route to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
Swift descent and landing
The crew executed a swift descent before touching down safely on Runway 06, just 22 minutes after the distress signal was issued. Upon landing, the aircraft was directed to Gate D60, where local medical teams boarded to continue CPR and provide emergency treatment.
The flight was operated by an Airbus A320, registered as G-EZWL, and had departed Larnaca Airport on October 6, heading for Glasgow. EasyJet has been approached for comment.
