Few could have predicted the speed at which Michelle Agyemang has burst onto the international stage. The 19-year-old Arsenal striker, who plays piano in her spare time, has become England's heroine at Euro 2025, scoring crucial goals in the knockout stages to keep the Lionesses' title defence alive.
Just three months ago, Agyemang was watching England Under-19s from the sidelines due to suspension. But after impressing for the youth side and being drafted into the senior squad to cover for an injured Alessia Russo, she scored 41 seconds into her debut against Belgium. Now, she has twice come off the bench to rescue England: first against Sweden in the quarter-finals, equalising in a 2-0 deficit before a penalty shootout win, then with a last-gasp equaliser against Italy in the semi-finals, setting up an extra-time victory.
Agyemang, who grew up in South Ockendon, Essex, with Ghanaian heritage, has been with Arsenal since age six and is studying business management at King's College London. Her love of gospel music led her to bring a piano to the tournament, which she plays to relax. Teammate Lotte Wubben-Moy has even requested private performances.
Her rapid rise is a testament to the Football Association's integrated pathway between youth and senior teams. After impressing in April while training alongside the senior squad at St George's Park, she earned her call-up. Despite limited game time on loan at Brighton last season, she has grabbed her opportunity with both hands, propelling England to a third consecutive major final.
Leah Williamson recalled Agyemang's first senior training session: 'She came and flattened me. I thought, she's got something about her. You can't give her a second.'
