Scott McTominay has been floated as a potential transfer target for Real Madrid, a move that would see him reunited with former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho. The Scotland international has excelled since leaving Old Trafford.
Impressive Napoli spell
McTominay joined Serie A side Napoli in the summer of 2024 in a deal worth £25.9million. He quickly established himself as a key player for his new club, helping them to win the Serie A title in his first season.
His form has led to speculation over his long-term future and a potential big-money transfer. Some reports in Italy have claimed that Real Madrid have made enquiries to establish the player's situation.
Saha backs Madrid move
Former United forward Louis Saha has named the Spanish giants as a move that McTominay could make. Speaking to BettingLounge, he said: "Scott McTominay leaving Manchester United is in the past, but he's a terrific player who wasn't fully appreciated there."
"United failed to maximise his potential, which has been a recurring mistake for the club down the years. He has the calibre to play anywhere, including Real Madrid, and pairing him with Jude Bellingham would be fascinating."
"They share similar dynamic profiles, and McTominay has proven his value at the highest level, it would be great for Scotland also."
Financial benefit for United
If a move in the next few transfer windows does happen, then United could benefit financially. The move away from United saw the club add a sell-on clause, which will see them get 10% of any fee Napoli receives for the midfielder.
Real Madrid are managed by Mourinho, who was McTominay's manager at United. The Scotland international played a total of 31 times under the Portuguese coach during the duo's time together at Old Trafford.
The 19-year-old has recently had some time on the sidelines after undergoing a minor heart operation. But he has since returned to action. He came on as a second half substitute in the 3-0 win over Frosinone after the international break, before starting the Champions League clash vs Villarreal and the Serie A defeat vs Venezia.
