Rory McIlroy lost his composure at the PGA Championship on Sunday, telling a golf fan to 'shut the f*** up' after the spectator yelled out during his back swing. The incident occurred on the 16th hole, where McIlroy mishit a delicate chip shot that dribbled into a bunker. Frustrated, he turned and directed his anger at the man who had shouted, also pointing him out to marshals in a possible attempt to have him removed from the course.
Ryder Cup Echoes
This outburst comes just months after McIlroy and his European teammates faced abuse and heckling from American fans during the Ryder Cup at Bethpage in New York. The Northern Irishman's patience appeared to wear thin as the final round at Aronimink proved frustrating. McIlroy failed to close the gap on the leaders, trailing Aaron Rai by four shots as he approached his final hole.
More details to follow as the tournament concludes.
