McIlroy Resumes PGA Prep Amid Toe Troubles

Rory McIlroy resumed his preparation for the US PGA Championship on Wednesday morning, putting concerns over a toe injury to one side as he bids for a seventh major title.

Practice Round Cut Short

The 37-year-old, who is aiming to win back-to-back majors at Aronimink Golf Club in south-west Philadelphia, cut short his practice round on Tuesday after just a few holes. During that session, he was seen removing his shoe after revealing last week at the Truist Championship that he was battling a blister on the little toe of his right foot. Reports indicate he ripped the nail off earlier this week, leaving him visibly struggling.

Wednesday's Session

However, McIlroy was back on the putting green shortly after 9am local time (2pm BST) on Wednesday before heading to the practice range. He then began his practice round on the 10th hole, accompanied by former champion Padraig Harrington, Ryder Cup teammate Shane Lowry, and Spaniard Angel Ayora. The Northern Irishman appeared in good spirits, laughing when a spectator praised his cameo in The Devil Wears Prada 2, and seemed to be moving freely—a marked improvement from Tuesday's limp.

Speaking to reporters later, McIlroy said: "It is totally fine." He is scheduled to begin his challenge for a seventh major title alongside Jon Rahm and Jordan Spieth at 8.40am on Thursday (1.40pm BST).
