Brendon McCullum is expected to stay on as England head coach across all formats after an ECB review triggered by the Ashes defeat. The 44-year-old has retained the support of the board following discussions about his future.
McCullum, who returns to New Zealand after England's T20 World Cup semi-final loss to India, will hold further talks with the ECB before an official announcement. The review was prompted by England's 4-1 Ashes defeat in Australia, which was marred by off-field controversies and player indiscipline.
However, McCullum is believed to have convinced the ECB he remains the right man for the job, citing the white-ball team's performances and attitude in India. England won six of eight World Cup matches and five of six games on the preceding tour of Sri Lanka.
Sources noted a cultural change under McCullum, with players practising late and observing a midnight curfew introduced before the Sri Lanka tour. Managing director Rob Key and Test captain Ben Stokes have endorsed McCullum, who is under contract until the 2027 50-over World Cup.
White-ball captain Harry Brook has been backed despite a £30,000 fine for an altercation with a bouncer, an incident still under investigation. McCullum has signalled willingness to adapt, with changes to backroom staff including Carl Hopkinson as fielding coach.
