Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has declined the club's offer of a brand new BMW i7, instead choosing the smaller iX3 as his courtesy car. The French star recently passed his driving test and is said to be mindful of handling a vehicle for the first time.
Real Madrid have had a sponsorship deal with BMW since 2022, which requires players to drive models from the German carmaker to training and club functions. Trent Alexander-Arnold was similarly forced to give up his preferred Range Rover P530, opting for the BMW iX xDrive60.
The top-specification i7 measures 5.4 metres in length, compared to the iX3's 4.7 metres, making the latter a more practical choice for a novice driver. Experienced drivers might prefer the i7, but Mbappe's selection reflects a cautious approach.
Mbappe turned 27 in December and had previously said he lacked time to obtain his licence. Now road-legal, he is subject to Spanish law requiring novice drivers to display an 'L' sticker on their vehicle for a year. Recent footage showed him driving out of the training ground with ease.
Despite his inexperience on the road, Mbappe remains prolific on the pitch, leading the La Liga scoring charts with 23 goals this season.
