Wrexham Urged to Target Vardy or Wilson Over Eriksen

Former Blackburn Rovers striker Matt Jansen has advised Wrexham to pursue Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy or ex-Newcastle forward Callum Wilson instead of Christian Eriksen. The Danish midfielder, 33, rejected a move to the newly-promoted Championship side after leaving Manchester United in May.

Jansen, who had a brief spell at Wrexham late in his career, told OLBG: "I would say they have a good four or five players to get, top class players, proven goalscorers, to get to the top level of the Championship. Most importantly for them is a goalscorer and you'd be looking at the likes of a Jamie Vardy or a Callum Wilson, free agents at the moment. I think they would both be a better signing than Eriksen."

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson confirmed on Monday that the club had made an initial approach for Eriksen, but the talks did not progress. "There was a call, a bit of dialogue over the summer, but it's not gone any further than that," Parkinson told BBC Sport Wales. "But obviously he's a majorly talented player and very well respected throughout football."

Eriksen's agent, Martin Schoots, described Wrexham as a "hugely impressive project" but the player opted to remain at the top level. Wrexham, owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have made six signings this summer as they prepare for their first season in the second tier in 43 years.
