Swansea boss Matos keeps door open for LAFC loanee Leo Walta return
Matos: Walta could still have Swansea future after LAFC loan

Swansea City head coach Vitor Matos has not ruled out Leo Walta resuming his career at the club, but admits the decision will not be Swansea's alone to make.

Walta has impressed since joining LAFC on loan in the summer, having made just two substitute appearances for the Swans in all competitions before the move. He has scored twice in his last three games for the MLS side, establishing himself as a key player under interim head coach Xavi Tamarit, who took over last month following the departure of Marco Dos Santos.

Matos monitoring Walta's progress

Despite Walta struggling for game time under Matos at Swansea, the Swans boss has been keeping a close eye on the midfielder's development in the United States.

"He needed and took a little bit of time but got sorted out," Matos said. "Then a wonderful goal from set-piece [against New York City], which we know is one of his best skills.

"Then to score again [against LA Galaxy], I think it's quite important for him to have this feeling, this confidence and playing time and to feel that football-wise.

"Then we will see what happens."

Loan spell and future options

Walta's loan spell runs until January, with LAFC holding an option to make the move permanent. That arrangement has led to speculation over whether the Finland international has played his final game for Swansea.

However, Matos insists there remains a route back for the midfielder.

"There's always a chance [he comes back]," he added. "It's always what we said as well in the transfer window.

"When the three parts are happy, it's life and then you need to move on.

"So then when the loan will finish, let's see what LA wants, what we want and what Leo wants.

"I think that's when all the parties agree on something, then it's decided."

What's next for LAFC

LAFC lost 3-1 to Minnesota United on Sunday, leaving them with one more regular-season game before the play-offs, a trip to Seattle Sounders.
