Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez has been dismissed from his role as a Fox Sports analyst following a violent altercation with a truck driver in Indianapolis last month. A Fox Sports spokesperson confirmed the termination on Friday, stating, “We can confirm that Mark Sanchez is no longer with the network. There will be no further comment at this time.”
Sanchez, 37, faces a felony charge of battery resulting in serious bodily injury and three misdemeanour charges, including public intoxication, after the incident on 4 October. The former New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles star allegedly assaulted 69-year-old truck driver Perry Tole in an alley between two hotels. Video footage shows Sanchez pursuing Tole, who backs away before a fight breaks out.
Tole, who stabbed Sanchez in what he claims was self-defence, said he believed the former quarterback was “trying to kill him”. Both men were hospitalised with serious injuries. Tole has since filed a lawsuit against Sanchez and Fox Corporation, alleging that Sanchez started the fight while smelling of alcohol, and that Fox knew of Sanchez’s “propensity for drinking and/or harmful conduct”.
Sanchez was booked into Marion County Jail on 12 October with his arm in a sling. He thanked first responders and his surgeon for saving his life. His trial is scheduled for 11 December, though prosecutors doubt that date will hold. Drew Brees will replace Sanchez as game analyst alongside Adam Amin through the 2026 season.
