Enzo Maresca wants to hear Manchester City fans singing at the end of every game after the team's 3-0 win at Liverpool at Anfield. The Blues played in a hostile environment after being found guilty of breaking more than 100 Premier League rules, but the players showed no sign of being affected.
Maresca on dealing with 'noise'
Maresca had described the guilty verdicts as 'noise' in his first interview since the news broke, and he has continued to use the term despite criticism. After celebrating with the travelling supporters on Sunday, he spoke about his hope for the club to stand up and be counted.
"It was not easy for the players after the last two or three weeks but they dealt with the situation very well," he said. "I said during the week we need to learn how to deal with the outside noise because of the situation. The noise will always be there so we need to learn how to deal with that but at the same time we need to try and bring our noise, which is to win games which is what we have done today."
Fans' singing as the target
"At the end of the game, our fans were singing so the noise was from us and not the environment. All the away games are going to be with noise so we need to learn how to deal with the noise. And at the same time, we need to make our noise. Our noise is we're signing at the end, our fans, and this has to be our target at the moment."
City may still face a points deduction this season or expulsion from the league if their appeal is unsuccessful and they receive a heavy sanction before the end of the campaign. Maresca, however, dismissed the idea that he could not celebrate wins properly until there is an outcome.
"You cannot imagine how happy I am," he added. "I don't care. I'm here to try and prepare games and win games, so hopefully I can speak about this situation when I'm going to win the appeal."
