Maresca Press Conference: Man City Injury Updates and Team News vs Aston Villa
Maresca Press Conference: City Injury Updates and Team News

Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca will hold a press conference this morning ahead of Saturday's Premier League trip to Aston Villa, with fitness updates expected on three key players.

City return to league action on the back of a 5-1 Champions League victory over AEK Athens on Tuesday night. Phil Foden scored a hat-trick, making it four goals in two matches for the 26-year-old, who is expected to be a talking point during the media session.

Haaland Fit to Start

Erling Haaland has been ruled fit to start against Villa after picking up a knock in the 3-2 win over Ipswich Town. The striker was an unused substitute in midweek, with Maresca confirming after the AEK game that he would be fine for Saturday's lunchtime kick-off.

Antoine Semenyo remains out until December, while Josko Gvardiol is fine after being replaced during the midweek match.

Doubts Over Nunes, O'Reilly and Kovacic

There is uncertainty over Matheus Nunes, Nico O'Reilly and Mateo Kovacic. All three picked up knocks last weekend and were not included in the squad to face AEK Athens. Maresca is expected to provide updates on the trio during the press conference.

Maresca is due to speak to the media at around 10.30am (UK time).

Haaland Workload Warning

Haaland has played 620 of 630 Premier League minutes this season, with his only rest coming in the closing stages at Anfield. With hindsight, he should have been withdrawn when a triple change was made against Ipswich with City 3-1 ahead heading into the final 15 minutes. The additional 12 minutes of stoppage time and the knock he picked up in the closing stages underlined that error.

The mood within the City camp remains positive after the AEK victory, which allowed Maresca to rotate his squad without losing quality. City do have a few injury doubts heading into the weekend, but that does not include Haaland.
