Enzo Maresca has said he is 'so confident' at Manchester City because of the many improvements the team can still make under him. A number of issues were on show again in their 3-2 win over RB Leipzig, but victory puts them in the top eight of the Champions League at the halfway stage of the group phase.
Despite losing their last two Premier League games, seven victories to start the campaign have the Blues second in the table behind Arsenal ahead of a tricky trip to Nottingham Forest. The fact that City are winning games despite only being at the start of Maresca's time at the club gives Pep Guardiola's successor satisfaction that they can get much better.
Maresca agrees with Haaland on improvements
Haaland said after their Champions League win that improvements were necessary, and Maresca had no issue in agreeing with his captain for the night.
"No doubt. I'm so happy, so confident because I can see that we can do much better and for me it's a normal thing, four months ago that we start," he said.
"This is not automatic, you need time, you need to work together. That's why I'm so happy because I can see that we can improve in many things. We are creating many chances in each game but we need to avoid silly goals. It’s about working more. Understand and analyse. I’m new here, I need to know the players and they need to know me. We can only improve."
Haaland's winner and call for more
Haaland's goal took him to 14 for the season, but he cut a frustrated figure for much of the night and managed just three touches in the first half. Nevertheless, the Norwegian was happy that his patience paid off as he netted another valuable winner.
"Not sure how many touches I had today, not the most but what is the most important is that I managed to help the team to win. I think we need to step up a bit, when we were 1-0 up I think we needed to go at it, go for the second goal and then the third - that's what we have to do. We have to work on that."
