Manchester United's attacking options have been dealt a double blow after Benjamin Sesko sustained a knee injury during Saturday's 2-2 draw with Tottenham, while the club are unable to recall Rasmus Hojlund from his loan at Napoli.
Sesko, who came on as a substitute in the 58th minute, lasted only 30 minutes before being forced off following a tackle by Micky van de Ven. The striker received medical attention for a knee problem and headed straight down the tunnel. Manager Ruben Amorim said: 'We have to check. He had something in his knee, let's see.' When asked if it was serious, he added: 'I have no idea. Because it's the knee, we never know.'
Meanwhile, United cannot bring Hojlund back to Old Trafford in January. The Denmark international is on loan at Napoli, who have an option to buy him permanently for £38 million at the end of the season. According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal includes an option that could become an obligation if Napoli qualify for the Champions League, and there is no recall clause in the agreement.
Hojlund has scored four goals in nine appearances for the Serie A leaders. Prior to the Tottenham match, reports suggested United were looking to sign a striker to provide competition for Sesko. Joshua Zirkzee was again on the bench, with rumours of a potential return to Italy.
Amorim acknowledged the club's transfer plans may need to be adjusted. 'We have to check everything, we have to check what has happened with Ben,' he said. 'Of course, we are going to have a problem there [with AFCON], but we already knew. ... But let's see when the window is open, if we can improve the team.'
