Former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster has suggested Aston Villa boss Unai Emery as a potential candidate to replace Ruben Amorim, who was sacked on Monday after a 1-1 draw with Leeds United. Foster, who played for United between 2005 and 2010, told talkSPORT that Emery is 'right at the top' of his game, but acknowledged Villa fans would 'hate' the idea of losing their manager.
Emery has transformed Villa into consistent top-half finishers and regular European contenders, but Foster warned that any new United manager would face internal struggles. 'There are too many chefs trying to stir the broth of Manchester United,' he said, referencing power struggles between executives and the director of football.
Amorim's 14-month tenure ended after a 15th-place Premier League finish last season and a current sixth-place standing. His tactical inflexibility, particularly his rigid 3-4-3 formation, caused tensions with the board and players. Caretaker Darren Fletcher has stepped in temporarily.
Despite Emery's success, doubts remain over whether he would leave Villa Park, where he enjoys strong backing. The 54-year-old previously managed Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain with mixed results, but may be tempted by another chance at a European giant. United spent £200 million last summer with little return, and the next manager inherits a club in need of direction.
