Man Utd's Leny Yoro Banned from Driving for Six Months for Speeding at 72mph in 30mph Zone

Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has been handed a six-month driving ban after being caught speeding at 72mph in a 30mph zone near a school in Withington, south Manchester. The 20-year-old French centre-back was driving his £170,000 Porsche Cayenne GTS on Mauldeth Road West on 28 August last year when a camera recorded him travelling at more than double the speed limit.

At Crewe Magistrates' Court on Saturday, Yoro was also fined £666 and ordered to pay £120 in costs and a £266 victim surcharge. His lawyer, Lisa Nevitt from Burton Copeland, submitted a letter to the court stating that Yoro pleaded guilty promptly and did not contest a disqualification, acknowledging the seriousness of the offence. The letter explained that Yoro was 'rushing to take a friend to the railway station' and believed the road was clear with little risk to pedestrians.

The incident occurred just after 4pm on a road lined with homes, a secondary school, and a sports club. Yoro, who joined Manchester United in July 2024 for a reported £52.2m fee, was also charged with failing to identify the driver, but this charge was withdrawn by Greater Manchester Police after he pleaded guilty to speeding with the assistance of a club official. The case was dealt with under the single justice procedure, meaning Yoro did not appear in court.

Court records show Yoro was among over 7,000 people prosecuted for speeding in England and Wales last week, with magistrates imposing fines totalling more than £20,000 and banning 115 drivers. Yoro has made 23 appearances for Manchester United this season.
