Manchester United Defender Leny Yoro Handed Six-Month Driving Ban for Speeding Offence
Manchester United centre-back Leny Yoro has been disqualified from driving for six months after being caught speeding at more than 70mph in a residential area of Manchester. The 20-year-old French footballer was driving his £170,000 Porsche Cayenne when a camera recorded him travelling at 72mph on Mauldeth Road West in the suburb of Withington last August.
Details of the Speeding Incident
Court documents reveal that Yoro was driving at nearly two-and-a-half times the 30mph speed limit in the area, which includes houses and a secondary school. The incident occurred after 4pm BST on 28 August, with Greater Manchester Police charging him with speeding and failing to identify the driver of the vehicle.
In a statement to the court, Yoro's lawyer, Lisa Nevitt from Burton Copeland, issued an apology on his behalf, explaining that he was "rushing to take a friend to the railway station" at the time. She emphasised Yoro's co-operation and accountability, noting that he did not contest the likely disqualification due to the high speed involved.
Legal Proceedings and Apology
Nevitt wrote that Yoro "would not seek to argue that he should not be disqualified" and acknowledged the court's probable decision to impose a ban rather than penalty points. She added that Yoro believed the road was broad with little risk to pedestrians, but he apologised for the incident nonetheless.
Yoro, who signed for Manchester United in the summer of 2024 and has made 23 appearances for the club this season, faces the consequences of his actions as the legal process concludes. This case highlights the serious repercussions of speeding in urban areas, even for high-profile athletes.
