Patrick Dorgu has been ruled out for 10 weeks with a hamstring injury, dealing a major blow to interim Manchester United boss Michael Carrick. The Denmark international had been a standout performer since Carrick took over, scoring in wins over Manchester City and Arsenal.
Carrick has been forced to adapt after naming the same starting XI for his first two matches in charge. With Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho unavailable, Mason Mount is the most obvious replacement. Mount has played off the left side under previous managers and is comfortable cutting inside onto his right foot.
Another option is to shuffle the attack, moving Bryan Mbeumo from striker to the right wing and promoting Matheus Cunha to the starting line-up. Cunha, who scored a winner against Arsenal off the bench, can start on the left and drift inside.
Amad, a left-footer who prefers the right side, could be repositioned to the left, with Mbeumo on the right, Cunha up front and Bruno Fernandes in the No.10 role. Alternatively, Carrick might turn to academy prospect Shea Lacey, an 18-year-old winger who has made two Premier League substitute appearances this season.
