Manchester United concluded their pre-season campaign with a 1-1 draw against Serie A side Fiorentina at Old Trafford on Saturday. The result extended the Red Devils' unbeaten run this summer, their first such record since 2019, ahead of their Premier League opener against Arsenal.
Before kick-off, United paraded new signings Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon in front of the home crowd. The fans also gave a rapturous welcome to former goalkeeper David de Gea, making his first return to the stadium since leaving two years ago, allowing supporters to bid a proper farewell.
Manager Ruben Amorim started Cunha and Mbeumo as dual No10s, the positions they are expected to occupy regularly. After the match, Amorim expressed confidence that the new attacking trio, alongside Sesko, would improve significantly. 'They will be so much better,' he said.
Following the 1-1 draw, United won a penalty shoot-out 5-4, with Amad Diallo scoring the decisive spot-kick. The match provided a final test before the competitive season begins next weekend.
