Manchester United have reportedly struck their second agreement of the week with Andre Onana set to rejoin Trabzonspor for a second loan spell. Onana spent this season on loan in Turkey, making 33 appearances in all competitions for Trabzonspor as he helped them finish third in the Super Lig and thus qualifying for the Europa League play-off round.
While the original loan did not include an option or obligation to buy, Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan revealed earlier in the month that the plan was to bring the goalkeeper back to the Senol Gunes Sports Complex. "We speak with Onana every day. We won't have any financial difficulties," Dogan said. "We'll make the necessary sacrifices. I don't think we will experience any setbacks. But if we do, we will find another goalkeeper of the same quality."
Verbal Agreement Reached
According to Fabrizio Romano, and as per reports in Turkey, a new loan deal has been verbally agreed as Onana does not figure into Michael Carrick’s plans at Man United next season. Furthermore, it is understood that United will receive a loan fee from Trabzonspor and that the finer details are being sorted before an official announcement.
Onana is set to become the fifth high-profile exit at Man United this summer, following Rasmus Hojlund, Casemiro, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia through the Old Trafford doors. The Cameroon international lost his place as Man Utd No1 at the start of the season before slipping even further down the pecking order following the arrival of Senne Lammens on transfer Deadline Day last summer.
Goalkeeping Situation
The impressive form of the Belgian goalkeeper after getting into the team from October and Tom Heaton signing a one-year contract extension means Man United do not have to enter the market for a Onana replacement. However, with Besiktas reportedly eyeing a move for Altay Bayindir, a new back-up ‘keeper may emerge as a priority for Carrick later in the window.
For now though, United have apparently moved ahead of Tottenham in the race to sign the West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes. Man Utd are said to have made Fernandes a key summer target as Carrick looks to revamp his midfield options. Ederson has reportedly passed a medical ahead of completing a £38m move from Atalanta, and now United are moving ahead with a deal to sign the 21-year-old.
Fernandes Breakthrough
talkSPORT have reported that Fernandes has agreed personal terms with Man Utd ahead of a summer mover to Old Trafford. United will now look to reach an agreement with West Ham, who are demanding a fee of £80million.
