Manchester United have been very active in the summer transfer window and show no signs of slowing down. The club have made five signings, three for the first team, with midfielders Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans arriving for a combined £85m and goalkeeper Karl Darlow joining as cover.
Another midfielder and defensive options remain on the agenda, while outgoings are also important as Michael Carrick reshapes his squad for a return to the Champions League. United have shown interest in Newcastle and England left-back Lewis Hall.
Lewis Hall: United weigh up £60m move
United have expressed interest in Newcastle defender Lewis Hall and are contemplating a move, reports the Mirror. The development came after Thursday morning's announcement that Eddie Howe had left Newcastle, bringing his near five-year tenure at St James' Park to an end.
The Red Devils are said to be "weighing up" a move for the £60m-rated Hall, given the current instability at Newcastle. However, the England international could still be convinced to stay, depending on who succeeds Howe.
From United's perspective, the former Chelsea academy product is seen as a potential long-term replacement for Luke Shaw at left-back. Newcastle, though, may be hesitant to part with another key player after losing Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali this summer, with Bruno Guimaraes heavily linked to Arsenal.
Hall made 46 appearances for Newcastle in all competitions last season. The 21-year-old's contract runs until 2029, following a £35m transfer from Chelsea in 2023.
Fredricson departs for Lausanne-Sport
United have announced that young defender Tyler Fredricson has completed a permanent switch to Swiss outfit Lausanne-Sport. The 21-year-old centre-back made four senior appearances for United after rising through the club's youth system.
Fredricson posted on his Instagram story: "Once a red, always a red." In a statement, United said: "Tyler Fredricson has agreed a permanent transfer to Lausanne-Sport, subject to registration. A lifelong Red from south Manchester, he worked diligently while proudly rising through the ranks of our world-famous youth system."
The statement continued: "Joining the club at Under-9 level, Tyler has been a model professional throughout his time with the club and a popular member of our Academy squads. His place in United's history books is also secured as a recipient of the prestigious Denzil Haroun Reserve-Team Player of the Year award in 2025."
Lausanne finished ninth in the Swiss Super League last season and hope to progress this term after appointing Luka Elsner as head coach in July. United added: "Everybody at United thanks Tyler for all his efforts during his time with the club and we wish him all the best for the next chapter of his career."
Orlando Gill: agent confirms United enquiry
Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill was the subject of an enquiry from Manchester United, according to the player's agent. The 26-year-old impressed for the South Americans during the World Cup as they faced France and upset Germany.
Gill is set to leave Argentine Primera Division club San Lorenzo this summer and United had been linked with a move. His agent, Mario Jara, claimed the Red Devils reached out, but any prospect of a deal appears to have passed with Karl Darlow signed as back-up to Senne Lammens.
Jara told DSports Radio: "We are in talks with English clubs as well as clubs in Germany. There were enquiries with Manchester United."
"We only received two concrete offers. We are currently in the negotiation phase. The sale is close, the time is right."
"We have to handle it very carefully because there are many things involved. It's ideal for him to take a step up in quality. He's prepared and capable of playing in any league, without a doubt."
"We're trying to finalise it as quickly as possible for everyone's benefit. It would be very important for San Lorenzo; hopefully, it will come to fruition."
