Manchester United reportedly considered reappointing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before hiring Ruben Amorim as manager last November. The Norwegian, who was sacked by the club in 2021, remains available after leaving Turkish side Besiktas in August.
Amorim arrived from Sporting Lisbon with a strong reputation but has struggled, winning only 18 of 49 games. United finished 15th in the Premier League last season and lost the Europa League final. This term, a Carabao Cup exit to League Two Grimsby and a slow league start have increased pressure on the Portuguese boss.
According to The Sun, United's hierarchy, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, briefly considered bringing back Solskjaer before opting for Amorim. Solskjaer, who scored 126 goals for United as a player and won multiple titles, has expressed willingness to return. Speaking at Oslo Business Forum last year, he said: 'If the family asks, I would say yes every day of the week.'
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is also among potential candidates being monitored by United. Glasner has led Palace to an unbeaten start and won the FA Cup in May. However, United insist they have not lined up replacements for Amorim, who faces a crucial match against Sunderland on Saturday.
