Manchester United Eye RB Leipzig Star Benjamin Šeško in Major Transfer Move
Man Utd target RB Leipzig's Benjamin Šeško

Manchester United are preparing a bold move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško as manager Erik ten Hag seeks to strengthen his forward line this summer. The 21-year-old Slovenian international has emerged as one of Europe's most exciting young talents following an impressive debut season in the Bundesliga.

Šeško, who joined Leipzig from sister club Red Bull Salzburg last year, scored 18 goals across all competitions in his first campaign in Germany. His combination of physical presence, technical ability and eye for goal has attracted attention from several top clubs across the continent.

United's Striker Search Continues

The Red Devils have been actively searching for attacking reinforcements after a disappointing Premier League campaign that saw them score just 57 goals - their lowest tally in the competition since 2015-16. With Anthony Martial expected to depart and uncertainty surrounding Rasmus Højlund's development, Šeško represents an intriguing option.

Standing at 6'4", the young striker offers a different dimension to United's attack with his aerial prowess and ability to hold up play. His €50 million release clause, active from 2025, could make him a relatively affordable target compared to other elite forwards in today's inflated market.

Competition for Signature

United aren't alone in their pursuit of Šeško, with several Italian clubs reportedly monitoring his situation. However, the Premier League's financial power and United's global appeal could give them an edge in negotiations.

RB Leipzig are understandably keen to retain their prized asset after already losing key players this summer. Sporting director Rouven Schröder recently stated: "Benjamin is an important part of our project. We see his potential and believe he can develop further with us."

Ten Hag's Transfer Strategy

This potential move aligns with Ten Hag's apparent strategy of targeting younger players with high potential. At just 21, Šeško fits the profile of players United have signed in recent windows, including Højlund (21), Alejandro Garnacho (19) and Kobbie Mainoo (18).

The Dutch manager will be hoping the Slovenian can provide the consistent goal threat United have lacked since Cristiano Ronaldo's departure in 2022. With pre-season preparations underway, the club will want to move quickly if they decide to formalise their interest.
